The Heart of Work

The MOKAN Partnership is a regional economic devleopment alliance encompassing 7 counties in 3 states; Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The Joplin region is located near the geographic and population centers of the United States. Interstate 44 & Interstate 49 along with US Hwy. 69 create connections to every region in the country and to Mexico and Canada as well. Three Class 1 railroads and two regional short-line railroads are important parts of the transpor- tation system.

Wages are approximately 80–85% of U.S. averages, depending on employment sector. The Joplin Region is still 18% manufacturing and the number of machinists and machine shops in the region is 4 times the national average. The Joplin Region also has numerous food processing companies (both human and animal) along with numer- ous poultry processing facilities.
