Located in South Texas’ Coastal Bend region, San Patricio County is in the midst of an economic boom. In recent years, more than $37 billion in new projects have either started construction in the county or announced plans to locate here. High profile developments include Cheniere’s $23 billion liquid natural gas plant, a $7 billion steam cracker facility owned by ExxonMobil/SABIC, and a $2.1 billion steel mill by Steel Dynamics, Inc. The county’s proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and the Port of Corpus Christi are driving forces behind much of its expansive growth.
San Patricio County encompasses 708 square miles and includes nine principal cities—Aransas Pass, Gregory, Ingleside, Ingleside on the Bay, Mathis, Odem, Portland, Sinton, and Taft. It has a population of about 70,000 people, located in both rural and urban areas. The Corpus Christi MSA has a combined population of over 430,000 people.
Transportation is a key strength of San Patricio County. Union Pacific Railroad, a Class 1 railroad serves the county, along with multiple interstate and state highways, Corpus Christi International Airport, and two private aviation airports. The Port of Corpus Christi, one of the busiest deep-water ports in the country, is located in San Patricio and Nueces counties.
With its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, San Patricio County is an outdoor paradise, offering fishing, diving, and recreational boating of every kind.
