TBIC College Certification Program

Regional workforce development is a key pillar of economic development efforts – both in the domestic and international market. It decreases unemployment, retains talent in the area and closes the skills gap, thereby providing a pipeline for both existing and prospective employers. Community and technical colleges stand as a key vehicle for this purpose: they provide technical education at an affordable rate and close to home. Their flexible schedules allow for students to work part-time, they increase the employability of local young talents through relevant technical skills and enable them to quickly enter into workforce.

Today, the nature of work is changing: from increasingly globalized work environments to the accelerated digitalization of the production process, new skills and talents are needed – for both established workers and those entering the work force for the first time.

To help local educational institutions ensure their readiness for these disruptive trends, the TBIC has developed a new kind of certification: the TBIC College Certification program.

The aim of the program is to certify local U.S. community colleges in their ability to provide technical training in line with top-tier industry standards, practical education to supplement theoretical curricula, equip students with international competency and become an effective long-term force multiplier for local economic development efforts in order to attract more European FDI to their community.

The certification process includes an in-depth assessment of several relevant parameters, such as the level of cooperation between the college and local industry representatives as well as the technical education and practical training offered to students. In a second step, community college representatives will be given the opportunity to participate in a TBIC networking and fact-finding trip to Europe, visiting relevant educational and governmental institutions for exchanges and to build institutional ties.
